There is another option. You could do them seperately until the last firing - then put them together. The glaze would weld them and by them they would be tough enough to withstand gravity.
well, yes - conceptually, being in one piece is more 'out there' but my other concern is packaging. Obviously a lot easier if the work is in two pieces as some bottles with stoppers are approaching 50cm! However, it is worth a go.
